the artist
Jon was born in 1951 in New York City and was raised in Maryland. He has spent the last 2 decades near the coast of North Carolina.
Growing up, Jon excelled in both the arts and the sciences. He became a nationally recognized clarinetist who toured Europe with the National Youth Symphony the summer before entering college. Meanwhile, he became fascinated with the camera and darkroom techniques. He went on to combine his interests by pursuing a major in chemistry at Emory University with a minor in the Arts.
After college he received a degree in Medicine and has been a practicing Hand Surgeon for over 25 years. However, he never abandoned his love for the arts, taking photography and darkroom courses at night while simultaneously completing his residency in Orthopedics. He has studied with some of the world’s best-known photographers including Elizabeth Opalenik, Bob Krist and Italy’s Massimo Bassano.
Jon’s captivating images have won numerous first place awards in regional and national juried photography competitions. His artwork has also been features in solo and group exhibitions around the country and in prominent photography fine art magazines such as B & W and Camera Arts. He is a frequent lecturer on the topic of using photography as a tool for achieving personal growth.
Jon is supported by his loving wife of 29 years and his two wonderful daughters.
